Community Update - Eastfield Park Enhancement Plan
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on LinkedinEmail this link
In June 2019, Council consulted main user groups and the broader community on proposed key elements being considered for Eastfield Park. Protecting and enhancing the natural environment and the improvements to Benson’s Pavilion, specifically the provision of female-friendly change facilities, received a high level of support. In response, Council has developed a staged approach to implement a number of key elements within the enhancement plan.
Stage one:
Stage One of the enhancement plan, will be implemented during the next 18 months and will include the following:
Discontinuance of the unused section of road adjacent to the former 49 Taylors Road property, and the subsequent title consolidation.
Rejuvenation of the bushland areas (in conjunction with the Friends of Eastfield Park group).
Redevelopment of Benson’s Pavilion, to include female-friendly change facilities and additional storage.
Enhanced after hours lighting for Eastfield Dog Park.
Investigation of improved pedestrian access at the Eastfield Road and Blazey Road roundabout
Stage two:
Development of Stage Two of the enhancement plan will occur after the Stage One implementation is completed.
It will involve a further review of Maroondah’s sporting and recreational demands and future requirements across the municipality to provide direction on the requirements at Eastfield Park (specifically the land that is currently utilised by the Croydon Light Harness Club trotting track).
Discussions with existing user groups will continue during this time, including the Croydon Light Harness Club and its peak body, Harness Racing Victoria, with regards to their future needs. The development of Stage Two will also include further consultation with the community

Hello Hetha,
Thank you for submitting your question.
The current title plans contain a section of Road at the end of Taylor Road, which is not used, and hence the proposal is to undertake changes to the title plans.
Council is participating in a Smart Cities Pilot Program which will see sensors installed at specific locations around the municipality to provide real time data on how community assets are being used. The sensors will be installed in carparks, facilities and on some park infrastructure, such as bins and gates.
As part of this program, sensors will be installed within the Eastfield Dog Park to collect data on how people are using the space. The sensors use a combination of movement and wi-fi signals to detect the number of people using the space and how long they stay. The data collected will enable Council to be more efficient and effective in our management and maintenance of the dog park, to ensure that it continues to meet the needs of the community.
