What is a Local Law?

    Council has the ability to create local laws in order to achieve its objectives and perform its functions under the Local Government Act 2020.

    A Local Law aims to:

    • provide for and assure equitable, orderly and enjoyable use of community facilities, including roads;
    • protect Council property and other community assets from loss or unnecessary or avoidable damage;
    • support a safe, clean and healthy environment in areas under its control and management; and
    • provide for the peace, order and good government of the municipality.

    Local Laws are designed to ensure that the actions of an individual or group do not have an adverse impact on the rest of the community.  Each municipality has it's own Local Laws, however most will have similar or the same laws.
