Have your say on the draft Business Development Strategy 2019

The Business Development Strategy will provide direction for Council on a range of issues that aim to deliver economic prosperity for Maroondah. The strategy will compliment Maroondah 2040 and the Council Plan and provide the basis for activity planning for Council’s Business & Activity Centre Development team. This will be done in the following ways:

  • Strengthening our local businesses through:
    • workshops
    • mentoring
    • advice
    • networking
  • Providing business and community friendly locations in the following ways:
    • Transforming BBP
    • RMAC and CAC redevelopment
    • Coworking
    • Other activity centres
  • Initiating and activating partnerships to grow our Maroondah economy

The first step in the process has been the development of an issues and opportunities paper that identifies key themes through analysis of existing data, local and global trends as well as opportunities and gaps that will impact key local sectors in the Maroondah economy. This piece of work was completed in July 2019.

The issues and opportunities paper stimulated discussion and provided a platform for engagement with multiple key stakeholders. It reinforced the need for a partnership approach (both internal & external to Council) to achieve B&ACD outcomes.

It also demonstrated the need for existing or short-term initiatives compatible with the long-term vision of Council to guide engagement with both internal and external stakeholders to reinforce current and future focus areas. It also identified the need for strategic alignment of the Maroondah economy in relation to State Government objectives.

Key focus areas of the issues and opportunities paper included the following;

  • Business Engagement & Support
  • Business Growth and Investment Potential
  • Maroondah’s Employment Precincts
  • Liveability & Infrastructure Delivery/Advocacy

In September 2019, BACD undertook the socialisation with feedback of the issues and opportunities paper from many stakeholder groups as a means of testing and reinforcing the items identified in the I&O paper. During August - October 2019 the draft Strategy will be developed.

This work will then be shared with stakeholder groups with feedback on the strategy during October - December 2019 with finalisation and adoption of the strategy in march 2020.
