Consultation information
Council sought community feedback for proposed traffic improvements along Bayswater Road in Croydon South.
The infrastructure upgrades are proposed near The Mall Shopping Centre at the Eastfield and Bayswater Road intersection and across Bayswater Road to Lucille Avenue. Currently the Lucille Avenue shopping strip and The Mall shops (on opposite sides of Bayswater Road) are not well connected.
What upgrades are proposed?
To address the issues raised and recognised opportunities for improvement, Council have developed a basic concept plan and detailed functional traffic plan to re-construct Bayswater Road that features the following major improvements:
- Re-alignment and traffic lights at the Lucille Avenue/The Mall intersection including a pedestrian crossing.
- Re-construction and delineate the carriageway between Bayswater Road and Eastfield Road providing proper lane widths and removal of open drains.
- Provision of raised pedestrian crossings on all approaches at the intersection of Bayswater Road/Eastfield Road.
- Extension of the right-turn lane on the western Eastfield Road approach to Bayswater Road to meet existing demands.
- Reconfiguration to the turning lanes and bus stops to a more standard and intuitive arrangement.
- Improvements and delineation for the shopping strip car park on the western side of Bayswater Road near Lucille Avenue.
- Extension of the bicycle lanes on Eastfield Road through Bayswater Road to the Tarralla Creek Trail.
These proposed changes will increase public safety for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians, along with increasing connectivity to the two shopping precincts and improving the overall appearance of the area.
