How will the cycling infrastructure projects be funded?
Council recognises the importance of expanding the network, it also acknowledges its limited investment capacity to take projects through the full project development and construction pipeline. To address these challenges, Council will seek to secure grants, partnerships and funding and resources to deliver the projects.
Council understands that expanding the cycling network also results in an increase in maintenance expenditure. To address this, Council diligently factors in the necessary maintenance budgets to sustain the network's growth. By allocating resources for ongoing maintenance, Council ensures that the cycling infrastructure remains safe, functional, and well-maintained for the benefit of the community.
What happens next?
Once public exhibition closes, Council will consider and respond to the feedback. The feedback adopted will result in changes to the Principal Pedestrian Network and the Walk Plan. The Maroondah Bicycle Network Plan will then go to Council for adoption in mid 2025.
Once adopted, Maroondah Bicycle Network Plan will be used to inform how we plan for improved cycling and walking across the City of Maroondah. Council will continue to fund the construction of bicycle and walking routes on the network in a fair and transparent way.
