We are inviting your feedback on Council's draft Disability Action Plan 2022-2026.

Council has developed a draft Disability Action Plan 2022-2026 and is seeking community feedback.

The draft Disability Action Plan 2022-2026 is Council’s plan to reduce barriers for people with a disability and support a more accessible and socially inclusive community. It outlines our vision for disability and inclusion in Maroondah, with equitable opportunities for people of all abilities, their families and their carers, to actively and fully participate.

The Victorian Disability Act (2006) requires public bodies like Council to develop a disability action plan to:

  • reduce barriers
  • promoted inclusion and participation in the community
  • change attitudes and practices that discriminate against people with a disability.

The draft Disability Action Plan 2022-2026 is one of several action plans that implement the Maroondah Liveability Wellbeing Strategy 2021-2031, Council’s key strategic document for enhancing community wellbeing, liveability and resilience over the next 10 years, and supports Maroondah 2040 - Our future together, the community’s vision for Maroondah.

Developing the plan

The draft Disability Action Plan 2022-2026 was developed with direct engagement by community members and stakeholders to identify the challenges faced by people with disabilities in Maroondah. Consultation took place during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 so was adapted to ensure COVID-19 safe practices.

Council engaged with:

  • the Maroondah Disability Advisory Committee, who were consulted at key stages of development of the draft and also provided advice on how Council should consult for the development of the plan.
  • the Maroondah Access Inclusion and Equity Advisory Committee
  • key stakeholders with disability experts through interviews
  • the Maroondah community as part of consultation for the development of the Maroondah Liveability Wellbeing and Resilience Strategy 2021-2031 and Council’s COVID-19 response.
