Maroondah City Council is developing a new Disability Policy and Action Plan 2019-2021 to guide Council's work in addressing the aspirations and priorities of people with disabilities in Maroondah.
The draft Plan outlines Council’s commitment and strategic direction in supporting a more accessible and socially inclusive community over the next three years, replacing the Disability Policy and Action Plan 2014-2018.
The draft Disability Policy and Action Plan is underpinned by the community vision outlinedin Maroondah 2040: Our future together to be a safe, healthy and active community with local opportunities provided for people of all ages and abilities to have high levels of social, emotional and physical wellbeing.
The draft Policy and Action Plan incorporates a range of initiatives across the breadth of Council operations to remove barriers to discrimination and meet the legislative obligations for people with disabilities, their families and carers.
In recent years, Maroondah City Council has become an innovative leader in the disability sector. Examples include the introduction of Changing Places facilities, the Pathways for Carers program and the Access Focus Group. Council has been the recipient of many awards for its innovative work at both a state and national level.
The commitments and initiatives in this draft Disability Policy and Action Plan will build on this recent success and work towards a community where all people have the opportunity to have high levels of social, emotional and physical wellbeing.
Copies of the draft Disability Policy and Action Plan are available for inspection at the City Offices Service Centre, Braeside Avenue, Ringwood; and Civic Square Service Centre, Croydon.
Following the conclusion of the community feedback period, the draft Disability Policy and Action Plan will be amended accordingly and presented to Council for formal consideration.
