Did you know that the Victorian Population Health Survey 2023 found that 18.5% of Maroondah's population smoke or vape? This is the highest percentage in the Eastern Metropolitan Region and equal to the Greater Melbourne percentage.
Council has created a draft Tobacco and E-Cigarette Policy with the aim of:
- Supporting the reduction of smoking and vaping rates within Maroondah
- Supporting reducing the exposure to second-hand smoke from tobacco and e-cigarette aerosols
- Supporting the prevention of the uptake of smoking/vaping
Part of the implementation plan for the draft Policy is the introduction of a 10-metre smoke and vape free zone around Council owned facilities, halls, buildings and sporting grounds during events.
