Consultation has concluded
This consultation has now closed and we thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback.
In Maroondah, women and girls will have equal opportunity to undertake sport and recreational physical activity in environments where they feel welcomed, supported and safe.
This is the vision driving Council’s draft Equally Active strategy and policy for women and girls in Maroondah. We are now seeking your feedback on these draft documents which outline Council’s commitment to advancing gender equity in sport and recreation and, to undertake initiatives to ensure our community environments support women and girls to be active.
As part of the development of the draft documents, targeted consultation was undertaken to understand the different factors that affect the physical activity levels of specific populations and to identify strategies to overcome these challenges. Additionally, Council sought to understand what is needed to support and sustain the recent growth in women and girls’ participation in the sports of soccer, AFL and cricket.
The draft Policy and Action Plan incorporates a range of initiatives across the breadth of Council operations to remove barriers to participation, to encourage women and girls’ participation in regular physical activity and to support sports and recreation clubs to provide welcoming and inclusive environments.
Following the conclusion of the community feedback period, the draft Equally Active Policy and Strategy will be amended accordingly and presented to Council for formal consideration.
