Consultation has concluded

Support Council to establish a wildlife corridor (known as a biolink) along the Mullum Mullum Creek.

The Mullum Mullum Creek Biolink ("the Biolink") has been identified as having large potential to enable a variety of fauna to move along the creek and into nearby areas, so that more people in Maroondah can connect with nature as part of their daily lives.

In collaboration with key community and agency stakeholders, Council has developed a draft Mullum Mullum Creek Biolink Action Plan. The draft Action Plan presents proposed actions to help build and sustain the Mullum Mullum Creek Biolink as a functioning wildlife corridor, and to support our community in experiencing, learning about and caring for the Biolink.

The Biolink

The Mullum Mullum Creek Biolink applies to the section of creek within the Maroondah municipality from Eastlink in Ringwood, to Yarra Valley Grammar in Croydon. It's boundary extends approximately 50 metres either side of the creek and key habitat patches, into neighbouring residential and commercial areas. The Mullum Mullum Creek flows through the traditional lands of the Wurundjeri-Woi Wurrung people. To learn 'What is a biolink?', visit our FAQs.

What has led us to this point?

Maroondah 2040: Our future together and the Maroondah Vegetation Strategy 2020-2030 both endorse the creation of habitat corridors, and in 2021 a Deliberative Panel of 40 community members strongly supported the inclusion of preparing and implementing biolink action plans in the 2021-2025 Council Plan.

The focal species

Seven different animal species were selected to provide a focus for provision of habitat and other requirements. The habitats that serve these species are also expected to serve the needs of a much wider range of species likely to inhabit or be attracted to the Maroondah area.

Learn more about the species.

Provide feedback and report sightings

  • Have we got the vision right?
  • Do you support the proposed actions?
  • Can you suggest suitable locations for habitat creation?
  • Have you seen any of the focal fauna species?

Complete the survey to share your thoughts on the draft Mullum Mullum Creek Biolink Action Plan. The survey will take approximately 5 to 10 minutes to complete and will help establish to further establish the Mullum Mullum Creek Biolink.

You can also 'drop a pin' on our interactive map to suggest locations suitable for habitat creation and indicate where you have seen any of the focal species.

Consultation closes Sunday 10 December 2023.
