Consultation has concluded

Council has been successful in obtaining funding through Sport and Recreation Victoria's 2019/20 Community Sports Infrastructure Fund, to install new lighting at Griff Hunt Reserve. The funding provides the opportunity to increase the capacity of the existing facility, to meet the growing demand for Rugby and Soccer in Maroondah.

The proposed lighting project will include installation of six (27 meter high) lighting poles and 150 lux of LED lighting to meet the Australian Standards for Sportsfield lighting, The lighting will cater for the increased demand, particularly with the growth of Soccer, and will improve the safety for players during training. Compliance with the Australian Standards will ensure that the proposed lighting is concentrated on the oval and that any spill of light is controlled and minimised.

Similar lighting upgrades have recently been completed at Town Park athletic track, Belmont Park soccer, and with Cheong Park oval nearing completion. Like these facilities, the use of lights at Griff Hunt will be controlled by Council with a 9pm curfew. The ability to automatically shut down the lights at this time will be included within the design specification and will be managed independently of the clubs.

We appreciate that residents living in close proximity of Griff Hunt Reserve may have further questions or concerns around the proposed installation of Sportsfield lighting. Unfortunately the current COVID-19 restrictions prevent us from facilitating our normal face to face information sessions on site at Griff Hunt, so we are providing some alternative online options to ensure you queries are answered and you have all of the information you need.
