Shape the future of transport in Maroondah
Consultation has concluded
Project update - April 2025
The Maroondah Transport Strategy 2025 - 2035 was endorsed by Council at the Council Meeting on Monday 28 April. The strategy adopts the Maroondah 2040 Community Vision for an accessible and connected community.
“In 2040, Maroondah will be accessible for all ages and abilities with walkable neighbourhoods, sustainable transport options, and a safe integrated transport network.”
To deliver on this vision the Strategy identifies six strategic directions and focus areas that inform decisions making about transport and guide investment, advocacy, and collaboration on priority actions over the next 10 years.
Community consultation on the draft released in 2024 helped shaped the Strategy. The extensive feedback was considered, and amendments made to the Strategy. The changes can be classified as updates and expansion of the evidence, section revisions to include requested maps and further explanatory information.

Maroondah Transport Strategy
The Maroondah Transport Strategy 2025 – 2035 has been developed in response to current transport policies, data, research, community input, stakeholder engagement, and technological advancements. The Strategy aims to create an accessible and connected network for the future, ensuring that everyone always has transport options and can easily reach their destinations for work, study, or leisure.
The Strategy focuses on improving all modes of transportation to be sustainable, safe, accessible, integrated, and affordable. It acknowledges that driving and parking will always be necessary, but seeks to integrate the transport modes, improve parking management, and introduce new services and technologies.
Furthermore, the Strategy demonstrates the Council's commitment to working in partnership with the community, transport authorities, and service providers. It emphasises the importance of listening to residents to achieve the best outcomes for Maroondah when planning and building the transport network. Over the next decade, the Strategy sets a path to:
- Improve access to our activity centres to support compact and liveable places for people to live, work and play.
- Maintain and improve our road network.
- Deliver integrated, resilient, and safe transport networks to support our communities transition to sustainable and less polluting transport.
- Provide a connected cross town public transport network that reduces our dependence on private vehicles.
- Expand the pedestrian and bicycle networks to ensure better connection and integration at transport hubs to encourage more people to walk and cycle.
- Support and enable residents to tap into the opportunities presented by the emerging transport services and technologies to make travelling cheaper and easier.
This Strategy will help to free up space on our streets, provide safe and fair access for everyone to transport options and have a positive impact on the community, local economy, and the environment.
