Consultation on the Traffic Concept Plan has now closed. We will provide further updates on this page once all feedback has been reviewed.

Previously Council sought feedback in relation to upcoming asset enhancement works on the section of New Street between Maroondah Highway and Sylvia Grove in Ringwood.

Investigations of this section of New Street showed the road surface in poor condition and requiring renewal. This includes:

  • Deep lift asphalt patching of localised pavement failures from Maroondah Highway to the Railway Crossing
  • Asphalt resurfacing of the full roadway from the railway crossing to Sylvia Grove
  • Localised kerb renewal.

Given that the asphalt resurfacing will renew the full road surface and given ongoing maintenance concerns with the rubber bolt down speed cushions, Council undertook a review of the existing traffic calming treatments and the traffic lane arrangements.

Key themes arising from the first stage of community consultation can be viewed via the 'consultation summary' tab below.

A concept functional design for the proposed traffic calming and lane arrangement changes for New Street is now available. - See link Traffic Concept Functional Design (PDF, 8.08MB)

Key elements of the design include:

  • A pedestrian refuge on New Street, south of Arlington Street, to allow pedestrians to undertake a staged crossing of the road.
  • A parking lane on the western side of New Street (south of Arlington) with two traffic lanes.
  • Five sets of concrete speed cushions, and associated traffic island in parking lane.
  • Changes to Parking Restrictions:
    • No Stopping restrictions beside the pedestrian refuge and approaches.
    • Additional No Stopping opposite the aquatic centre.
    • Signing of 10 metre parking restrictions at intersections.
    • Additional parking available where central islands have been removed near Barkley Street and Summer Lane intersections.

Drainage Upgrades:

The feature and level survey of New Street is now complete.

Council’s flood modelling consultant is undertaking a review of the proposed flood mitigation works based on the survey output. The outcomes of this review will be incorporated into the design of the road rehabilitation works.
