Council undertook a review of the Maroondah Onsite Wastewater Management Strategy 2025-2030 in June and July 2025. The Strategy was endorsed at Council's September 2025 meeting. A copy of the endorsed Strategy is available to view in Documents section on this page.

The updated strategy, in line with requirements of the Environment Protection Authority’s Obligations for Managers of Land and Infrastructure includes:

• An assessment of the management of onsite domestic wastewater and the risks posed to human health and environment;

• Council’s approach to compliance; and

• An action plan to address the identified risks from the use of onsite wastewater management systems (septic tank systems) in Maroondah.

Council asked residents who operate an onsite wastewater management system (OWMS) to review the draft strategy and provide feedback on managing the risks associated with the use of OWMS for household wastewater.
