The following ideas can be considered when answering the questions below:

  • More affordable housing
  • 2.24 million new dwellings by 2051
  • At least 70% of new growth in established areas of Melbourne and 30% in Greenfields
  • Increased infill development in Victoria’s cities and townships
  • Increased housing diversity and choice to suit different household needs at different stages of peoples’ lives
  • Retention of Victoria’s renowned liveability as the population grows and neighbourhoods evolve
  • Better protection of green wedge and agricultural land from residential encroachment.

Liveable and thriving neighbourhoods

The following ideas can be considered when answering the question below:

  • The liveability of Victoria’s cities, centres and towns
  • Well designed, thriving and connected neighbourhoods
  • Cohesive and healthy communities
  • Attractive and well used parks and public spaces
  • Adequate planning, infrastructure and amenity
  • Walkable neighbourhoods
  • 25% target of trips by foot and cycle by 2030
  • Easy access to social infrastructure including health, education and cultural facilities
  • Preservation of cultural and built form heritage.

Equity and jobs

The following ideas can be considered when answering the statement below:

  • More jobs closer to where people live
  • More equitable access to local facilities and services
  • Transport links within communities and to jobs and education
  • Adequate employment lands to support jobs growth
  • Preservation of Victoria as an attractive place for new business
  • A clear framework for state significant precincts in metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria
  • Safeguards for Victoria’s productive agricultural land
  • Accommodation of future freight capacity.

Sustainable environments and climate action

The following ideas can be considered when answering the questions below:

  • Protection of the environment
  • Cleaner air, greener streets and healthier waterways
  • Greater resilience to climate change
  • Improved building performance through ESD
  • Transformation of the energy system
  • Reduced impacts of climate related natural hazards
  • Net zero by 2045 while reducing household energy bills and generating new jobs.
