Changing the globe - one street at a time

13 December 2018

Maroondah City Council is committed to reducing greenhouse emissions and responding to climate change.

Over the past four years we have overseen the changeover of more than 5,200 mercury vapour lights to LED in residential areas. This is set to reduce our streetlight greenhouse emissions by more than 35,840 tonnes over twenty years.

In addition, these new lights are providing better lighting outcomes for our community, including:

  • greater consistency of light across and along the street
  • realistic, natural lighting and visibility
  • longer life span and less maintenance issues required over time
  • lower glare
