We are extending our consultation for the Draft Maroondah Public Lighting Policy.

29 January 2019

Thank you to residents who have provided feedback on the policy and in particular, the proposed policy position of replacing non-standardised decorative street lights with standardised street lights.

Many of the submissions we have received do not support the removal of existing decorative lighting. In response to what you have told us we will undertake further research to examine possible alternatives or solutions, and identify any potential changes that could be made to the DRAFT policy position.

We will:

  • Undertake a cost benefit analysis based on replacing decorative lighting with standardised light versus retrofitting existing decorative lights with LED bulbs
  • Research various industry approved options for standardised lighting
  • Identify ongoing challenges associated with the maintenance of non-standardised decorative lights, as well as the effectiveness of these lights against lighting standards, the amenity they provide, and the implications of maintaining street trees with existing lighting.

While we undertake this additional research, we will continue to engage with the community. Consultation on the Draft Maroondah Public Lighting will now close on 22 March , 2019.
