The ReadyMaroondah project aims to empower community organisations to build a resilient future to strengthen support for residents in the face of emergencies and major disruptions. As part of this project, we are seeking feedback directly from community groups and service organisations who work in this space.
Extreme weather events, emergencies and other community disruptions will increase in frequency and intensity in the coming years. These events can disproportionately impact vulnerable community members. When emergencies happen, those with existing financial worry or who are facing other challenges can experience higher levels of emotional distress. This can increase feelings of social isolation and loneliness, particularly for community members who are already at-risk.
Some events that may occur in Maroondah are:
- Extreme temperatures
- Storm
- Bushfire/Grassfire
- Road incident
- Civil disturbances
Working with community organisations
Community groups and service organisations play an important role in supporting vulnerable members of our community on a day-to-day basis – this support is even more important when emergencies happen.
To better understand the strengths of community groups and service organisations and their ability to respond and adapt to extreme weather and major disruptions, we are asking our local community groups and service organisations to complete our quick five minute survey.
The survey
Social Network Analysis
Social Network Analysis (SNA) is a way of mapping out relationships to show how groups and organisations are connected. By looking at these maps, we can spot strengths and opportunities that we might not notice otherwise. This approach is really helpful for Council to understand how our community is linked, figure out the best ways to strengthen connections and to see how things change over time.
Part one of the survey will ask you to identify up to 10 community groups or service organisations that your group, organisation or service currently has a relationship with. These can be formal partnerships, informal relationships or something in-between.
Working with an expert consultant, the SNA map will be constructed based on the number of times that a particular group, organisation or service is named in the survey, the number of relationships each community group or service organisation identifies and the significance of the identified relationships.
Preparedness and response
Part two of the survey asks questions specifically related to emergencies and major disruptions. The responses to these questions will help us get a better understanding of where Maroondah is placed as a community in preparing for and responding to emergencies and major disruptions and will allow us to identify strengths and gaps that will help to build community resilience.
To provide feedback on behalf of your community group or service organisation, please complete the survey by clicking on the link below. Consultation closes on Tuesday 10 March 2026.
