Council is in the process of developing the draft Maroondah Sustainability Strategy 2021 to 2030. This is one of Council’s key strategic documents and plays a key role in delivering on sustainability outcomes identified in Maroondah 2040: Our future together, providing a strong foundation to deliver a more liveable and sustainable environment in Maroondah. The strategy will contribute to Council’s Maroondah 2040 Community Vision for the municipality for a clean, green and sustainable community.
In developing the new strategy, Council is undertaking a comprehensive review of the Maroondah Sustainability Strategy which includes reflecting on the achievements of the past strategy, undertaking research, and preparation of an Issues and Options paper to inform the final strategy.
Council is keen to understand your views on the information presented inthe draft Sustainability Strategy Issues and Options Paper, in particular, on the various options presented for Council to pursue into the future as part of the Maroondah Sustainability Strategy Review. The directions and actions that Council decides to pursue will be articulated in a draft Council strategy that community will be invited to comment on later in 2021.

An internal evaluation of the strategy, key priority actions and targets was undertaken. Recommendations from this evaluation will be used to inform the preparation of the Sustainability Strategy 2021 to 2030.

A series of background papers around a series of themes were developed by internal technical experts and used to inform the development of the Issues and Options paper. The themes included green and blue infrastructure, community leadership and activation, transport, social sustainability, sustainable urban design, and green economy.

This discussion paper has been prepared to engage with the community and stakeholders on the development of the Maroondah Sustainability Strategy 2021 to 2030. It presents options within Council’s sphere of influence and invites community feedback on these options which will then inform the directions and actions that Council might pursue into the future.
