3. CREATIVE SPACES - Making space for the arts, culture and creativity. - Draft

Maroondah has many different types of creative spaces. These range from popular arts facilities like Wyreena Community Arts Centre, Karralyka Theatre, and Maroondah Federation Estate, to new and contemporary Arts spaces at Realm. Creative spaces provide us with the opportunity to enjoy the arts in all their forms - from visual arts to performing arts and more.

Many people in Maroondah want to enjoy arts, culture and creative experiences as part of their everyday lives, whether they are shopping, catching the train, or walking in our wonderful parks and open spaces. Public spaces provide us with a great opportunity to connect to each other and to what we value. Pop-up experiences are a great way for everyone to enjoy the arts.

Ringwood arts precinct has an informal network of indoor and outdoor spaces that includes the Ringwood Station, Ringwood Town Square, Realm, the Backyard and even sometimes includes vacant shops in Eastland.

Do we have enough creative spaces for presenting the arts in Maroondah or are there new opportunities that we could develop? Artists and creative producers also need spaces to make new work, rehearse and practice. Do we have enough of these spaces in Maroondah? Are they in the right places and do they allow us to have the kind of vibrant community we want?
