Consultation update - October 2023

Thank you to everyone who submitted feedback to the Maroondah Bicycle Network Review. A total of 326 submissions from 322 individual contributors was received, making the consultation our largest on the topic of walking and cycling.

The Maroondah Bicycle Network Issues and Opportunities: Consultation Report has been prepared, and is a summary of the existing context of cycling in Maroondah and the key findings and feedback of the consultation. The report reveals what you told us about the safe spots and unsafe spots in the existing network, the reasons why walking and cycling might be difficult for you, and your ideas about how the network can be made better for people of all ages and abilities.

The feedback from this stage will now help to shape the development of a bicycle network plan. Work on this plan will consider the ideas mentioned and responses to the issues raise to determine the priority routes and appropriate facilities. As the network plan develops, there will be more opportunity to get involved and have your say on the proposed network and actions. Keep an eye out on Council's website and social media for further updates.

Consultation - July 2023

The Maroondah Bicycle Network is an important part of our transport network. Our bike lanes, pathways and trails connect the suburbs to workplaces, schools, stations and other community services. Supported by wayfinding signage, drinking fountains, repair stations and bicycle parking, the network makes traveling by bike and on foot easier, safer and more convenient.

You can view the current bike routes and shared paths on Maroondah Interactive Map by selecting 'walking and cycling trails' and 'bike lanes'.

The Maroondah Bicycle Network was released in 2004 as part of the Maroondah Bicycle Strategy. It is now time to review and update our Bicycle Network Plan to ensure it complements developments in land use and transport policy, neighbouring bicycle networks and cycling design guidelines and standards.

Have your say

To inform our initial planning and review, we want to know and understand how the Maroondah community and visitors to the area use the network and their experience of it.

This first round of engagement provides two ways to share your experience, insights and ideas about the network - an online interactive map and online survey. There will also be on site intercept surveys taking place over the consultation period.

We want to hear from cyclists, walkers, runners and the wider community on what they do (and don't) enjoy about our bicycle and shared user paths. Your feedback will help to develop the future bicycle network of Maroondah.

Community intercept surveys

As part of the consultation there will be staff conducting intercept surveys with the community on Wednesday 26 July from 8am to 10am and 3.30pm to 5.30pm in the following locations:

• Ringwood Station (southern side of the platforms)
• Mullum Mullum Creek Trail at Oban Road
• Heathmont Rail Trail (south of Canterbury Road)
• Tarralla Creek Trail at Eastfield Road
