Purpose
The purpose of the Maroondah Transport Strategy is to:
Strategic directions
1. Support compact and liveable activity centres.
For example, Ringwood Metropolitan Activity Centre or Croydon Major Activity Centre.
2. Enhance cross region transit corridors.
This includes major trails, pathways, roads and railway lines that should be our quickest forms of transport that has capacity to take the biggest volume of movement. For example, Lilydale to Belgrave rail line, major arterial roads including Maroondah Highway and bike trails such as the Mullum Mullum Creek Trail.
3. Deliver integrated, resilient and safe transport networks.
This is a network where people have choice as to what mode of transport they want to catch, at suitable times, where they feel safe and it is accessible.
For example, Melbourne CBD and Box Hill feature train, walking and cycling options that can be utilised interchangeably.
4. Transition to low-carbon transport and economy.
For example, active transport (such as walking, cycling) and electric vehicles, which omit low or no carbon emissions.
5. Deliver safe, accessible and low-stress pedestrian and cycling routes.
For example, a walking or cycling route that is comfortable, safe and accessible for all individual users.
6. Pilot new and emerging transport systems and services.
For example, car sharing services, electric vehicle charging stations and intelligent park systems, which can be seen at Eastland and Devon Street Carpark.
Key Focus Areas
1. Incentives for sustainable transport options.
2. Advocating for investment in public transport systems and road upgrades to make them safer and usable for all road users.
3. Enhance key transport routes through Maroondah to better cater for a range of transport options.
