Consultation has concluded

To meet the growing demand for Soccer in Maroondah, Council is proposing to install new lighting towers at Silcock Reserve, and has submitted an application to Sport and Recreation Victoria's 2019/20 Community Sports Infrastructure Fund, to assist with the project costs,

The proposed lighting project will include installation of seven (30 meter) lighting poles and 150 lux of LED lighting to meet the Australian Standards for Sportsfield lighting. Compliance with the Australian Standards will ensure that the proposed lighting is concentrated on the oval and that any spill of light is controlled and minimised.

With increased demand on Silcock Reserve ovals and the need to improve safety for the players during training, Council has allocated funding to undertake a redevelopment of both ovals, which will coincide with and compliment the proposed installation of sportsfield lighting. These upgrades are proposed to be undertaken on both the northern and southern ovals and will be completed at the same time to limit the impact on the clubs and surrounding residents.

Similar lighting upgrades have recently been completed at Town Park athletic track, Belmont Park soccer, and with Cheong Park oval nearing completion. Like these facilities, the use of lights at Silcock Reserve will be controlled by Council with a 9pm curfew. The ability to automatically shut down the lights at this time will be included within the design specification and will be managed independently of the clubs.

We appreciate that residents living in close proximity of Silcock Reserve may have further questions or concerns around the proposed installation of Sportsfield lighting. Unfortunately the current COVID-19 restrictions prevent us from facilitating our normal face to face information sessions on site at Silcock Reserve, so we are providing some alternative online options to ensure you queries are answered and you have all of the information you need.
